STEP 1: CHOOSE A STYLE

We have lots of different  styles to choose from and we know it can be confusing! Whilst there is lots to know, we would like to sum it up as follows:

FINEART ALBUMS

These albums are hand crafted using Smooth Fine Art Paper & the design allows your images to run across a double page spread with no gap in the crease.

PRESS BOOKS

A choice of smooth or textured “Fine Art Style” papers with a matte finish. Images are printed using Indigo Press Printing.

TRADITIONAL MATTED ALBUMS

A selection of classic matted albums (Styla / Pro Bound / Art / Fusion) with card mats overlaying each image.  Printed on professional photographic paper.

FLUSHMOUNT ALBUMS

Printed on professional photographic paper & the design allows your images to run across a double page spread with no gap in the crease (Digital Art / Fusion / Mini Digital Pocket Books).

DIY ALBUMS

These albums are straight off our shelves and can be delivered to your doorstep (DIY Matted / DIY Peel n Stick).

Confused about which Album Sizesto offer? Our most popular album sizes are 9×9 / 12×12 / 10×14 !

STEP 2: DESIGN + PROOF

All our bespoke albums are created and ordered through our Jorgensen Album Design Software, or as we like to call it, JAD!  The software will automatically adjust the bleeds and trims for all your images so there is no need to spend hours adjusting every image!

Ask your local distributor about Test Prints & Sample Discounts!

STEP 3: ORDER!

Once you are happy with your order simply send it off for print and assembly in JAD!

Once you send us off your first order through JAD you will receive an automatic email back from JAD to confirm your order.   Shortly after this we will contact you with your order details and final price.   This is the perfect time to check that all the information we have about your order (including your delivery address) is correct.  Once we receive payment we will commence you order.

Please allow approximately 3-5 weeks for us to create your custom album.

Tips & Tricks for your first album order

Our Five Favourite JAD Tips!

Have a few favourite mats you use again and again for every album?  Make sure you save them to your favourites folder so you can use them again and again, a great time saver! These will be then be available for every album (provided it is the same size album).  You have two options to save them to fabourites as follows:

OK, now you have the basics of JAD sorted, we have listed our five favourite JAD time saving tips below!

1. Sort your images before you start designing…

By sorting all your images before you start your project you can save lots of time trying to find images in the album design process!

We like Pre Ceremony / Ceremony / Location / Reception to sort all wedding images.

You can then create Image Categories in JAD to save the different images under the different categories.  Simply click IMAGE from the top toolbar and select ADD IMAGE CATEGORY from the drop down menu.

The image categories will then appear on the bottom right hand corner of your screen next to the Photo Previews.  Once you have created the Image Category simply add images to each category!

2. Full page image? Simply right click…

This one is super simple but such a goodie!

To add a full page digital spread to your Album, simply drag and drop the image onto the page then right click on the image and select FILL MAT. Voila, full page spread!

3. Have you cleared the cache file to speed up JAD?

This  is a great habit to get into and can speed up JAD. By cleaning up the cache it cleans up all the image thumbnails saved from your recent album orders.  Don’t worry though, you wont lose your album files, exported images or originals!

Simply click on FILE on the top toll bar and select IMAGE CACHE MANAGEMENT from the drop down menu.  Select CLEANUP CACHE.

4. Add your mats to ‘Favourites’ and save time!

Have a few favourite mats you use again and again for every album?  Make sure you save them to your favourites folder so you can use them again and again, a great time saver! These will be then be available for every album (provided it is the same size album).  You have two options to save them to fabourites as follows:

1. Save the mat from the mainscreen by simply selecting MAT from the top toolbar and selecting ADD MAT TO FAVOURITES from the dropdown menu.

2. Save the mat from the Custom Mad Editor Scree n by simply selecting ADD MAT TO FAVOURITES from the right hand side of the screen.

5. How to create a double page panoramic spread!

Double page spreads can create gorgeous panoramic images, so make sure you get them right the first time.

To create a double page spread in JAD, click the TOP drown menu on the left hand side of the screen under MAT SELECTION.  Select PANORAMIC 2.

Once you have done this simply drag and drop the panoramic mat template on to your double page spread!

TIP: If you design/edit your page designs in photoshop or Indesign before importing into JAD, please ensure you create a full double page spread for any panoramic designs.  For example, a 12×12″ Album double page spread would need to be created as a 24″ x 12″ file size in Adobe.

Your Logo artwork will remain the same size for the entire order and cannot be altered once the logo block is created.  If you would like to have two different size logos created,  you will need to place an order for two logo blocks. You can change the colour of your logo for each order at no additional cost.  Tips for Logo Artwork:

  • All logos must be black and white for embossing purposes. No shading will appear on your logo as it will be one solid colour.
  • Very detailed images, small fonts or fine lines will not emboss well.  You may wish to consider removing any detailed sections of your logo before sending us the image.
  • Keep in mind the size should be no larger than a standard business card.

How much bleed to I need to allow on my images for a Komplet Album?

We recommend you allow for a 5mm bleed around the three outer edges of all your images.

If you design your album as a double page spread, please allow for a 5mm bleed on all outer edges.

Please note, the middle edge will not be trimmed.

Contact us if you are unsure about how much bleed to allow and we will be happy to talk you through it!

Can I design my album in other software?

Matted Albums

All matted albums have to be designed and ordered in JAD.

Digital Albums - Importing Album Designs

We all know that everyone has a favourite camera, photo editing software and perhaps even a favourite album design software.  What you probably don’t know is that JAD software allows you to import your page designs in from other software…we love to share!

We hear you ask how is this possible? Well let us explain.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It really is quite simple:

  1. Create your page layouts using one of the compatible album design software programs (See below)
  2. Export the page layouts you have created as Jpegs.
  3. Import the page layouts into JAD and drag them into the corresponding pages

Need some more details? We thought you might, so read on for the specifics!

  1. Design your page spreads in your preferred software*.
  2. Export the page layouts*
  3. Open up JAD and create your preferred Album. Complete all the order information (page number, cover material etc).
  4. When you get to the following PAGES AND MATS screen, simply select ALBUM DESIGN FROM THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE

Please note: If you are using Adobe Indesign or Adobe Photoshop be sure to create all the page layouts as double page spreads. Export these as flattened jpegs.

WHICH ALBUMS CAN I DO THIS FOR?

This is currently available for all Digital Albums (Komplet Collection), Press books & Fine Art Albums.

WHAT ARE THE SOFTWARE PROGRAMS I CAN USE?

Currently, you can use an of the following programs:

If you get stuck at all, please feel free to use the online chat on the bottom right of your screen and we can talk you through this is real time! Alternatively, you can always contact us!

Why do I need the Pro version of JAD?

99.9% of all clients using Jorgensen albums since the launch of JAD in 2002 use JAD Pro.

Without JAD Pro you would have to spend hours in an image editor such as Photoshop to produce printing files for your albums (required for Pro Bound, Styla and Art Albums).

JAD Pro is a complete workflow system for producing images for output at any printing DPI for in-house inkjet printing or lab outsourcing.

Note: JAD Pro is not required for Fusion, Digital and Pocket Book Albums

How do I check I have the latest version of the Album Design Software?

Open JAD go to the top right and open HELP and ABOUT.

Your version should be 2.13.1

JAD ALBUM SOFTWARE - TROUBLESHOOTING

Designed the wrong size album?

No problem, if you e-mail the album design you saved ( e.g. sue/mat.jlb) to sales@jorgensenalbums.com (Australian Customers) or your Local Distributor (International Customers) with details of the change required we will make the changes and e-mail back a new design FOC.

Note: This is a case by case basis and it is not always possible to do this.

I designed a Studio Album with the wrong number of pages?

Unlike the Pro albums which are made to order, Studio albums are only available with a fixed number of pages (5,10,15,20 or 25 pages).

I need less pages in my Studio Album?

If you have too many pages leave them blank, go to ALBUM – ORDER PROPERTIES and use the SPECIAL INSTRUCTION box to request a change when you submit the order.

I need more pages in my Studio Album?

If you need more pages we will need to split the order into 2 parts.

  1.  Go to ALBUM – ORDER PROPERTIES and use SPECIAL INSTRUCTION to advise “this is Part A of a 2 part order as we need more pages”.
  2. Now go to FILE & “SAVE” the album.  Make sure you save the copy with the words “Part A” in the file name.
  3. Then again go to FILE and “SAVE AS” to make a “Part B” copy.  Again, Make sure you save the copy with the words “Part B” in the file name.
  4. Open the “Part B” copy go to ALBUM – ORDER PROPERTIES and use SPECIAL INSTRUCTION to advise “this is Part B”
  5. Now clear the mats by going to MAT – CLEAR MAT in the top menu.
  6. You can now start to design the remaining pages in your album (e.g. if you need an additional 5 pages/10 sides, design another 5 pages/10 sides).

When both Part A & B are complete, ORDER both albums.

Error Message “This order cannot be sent with missing photos or empty pages”

This message is normally due to a “hidden” aperture in your album design, i.e. there is an empty aperture hiding behind one of your images! This is most common on pages where you may have replicated an aperture a few times and you accidentally created one too many.

To find the hidden empty aperture you will need to manually check each side by going to LEAF VIEW then clicking EDIT on each side to open up the Mat Editor.  Simply shift  around each aperture till you find one hiding behind another one, as per the screenshot below.

Once you have deleted the hidden aperture, you should be able to proceed with your order!

Error message “images are missing”?

When JAD opens it checks to make sure all the imported images are in the same directory as before.

“Images missing” advises you have moved the folder or re-named it.  You will need to tell JAD where the new file location is, by the following steps:

  1. Go to IMAGE and click VERIFY IMAGES
  2. Find the new location of the image folder (but do not open it).
  3. Click the button on the bottom right hand corner.
  4. All your images should now be present.

GENERAL

Can I add a Studio Logo to your products?

Most of our products have the ability to be personalised by adding a Studio Logo somewhere on the product!

Most customers choose to blind de-boss their logo on the front flyleaf where possible.  This is a terrific way to brand your work, without it overtaking your Bride’s album.

To include your logo, we need to get an unique embossing block made up.  To do this we require your logo in black and white, approximately the size of a standard business card and jpeg format.

TIP: The more simple the logo, the better it will emboss! Not sure if your logo will emboss very well? Contact us and we can help you out!
